Hey, I'm Seth and I love to build! I help innovative companies transform ideas into winning products. I also experiment and build new products within my independent product studio.
My passion for building was sparked in 2014 when I launched my first Kickstarter campaign and e-commerce business. I then worked with a variety of tech startups including Lucid Software before I moved to Seattle to work for Amazon. I was at Amazon for 5+ years and built new products within Kindle, Amazon Devices/Alexa, as well as an AI-powered workplace learning platform. I've been consulting since 2021 and have worked with companies like Ribbon Home, OpenComp, Packsmith, Plaey, and many others.
I draw inspiration from the beautiful PNW and outdoor sports including skiing, mountain biking, surfing, and wing foiling.
I'm constantly refining how I approach new problems, and I don't have a rigid playbook -- but here's a general idea of how I tend to think about a new project (which is influenced by many successful methodologies and my own experience):
Figure out who the customer is, what problem they have, and how big of a problem it is for them. Estimate the size of the opportunity and probability of it panning out based on customer insights, market, etc. Design a "right-size" solution, based on the size of bet to take on the opportunity. Build it as quickly and cheaply as possible (could be just a prototype), while prioritizing design and user experience. Test it -- which oftentimes just means sell it -- to validate distribution (this oftentimes comes before building). Gather feedback from customers, and iterate until it's a winning product.
Data, technology, and design serve as the three foundational pillars of my skillset. I have hands-on experience as a designer, a data analyst, and a developer which gives me context and empathy required to be a successful (and resourceful!) product leader.
